VIN Number Decoding
Each Celica has a Unique 17-digit VIN number. The information below
is what the dealer sees when they look at your VIN. The VIN number
is also used by the DMV as a unique identifier to a vehicle. You
can find your VIN number in a number of places including on the
dash (drivers side), door frame, and stamped on the engine block.
Submitting a request to CarFax
will show whenever your vehicle has changed hands, whether or not
a car has a salvage title, when the car has been tested for emissions
and more.
Each number of the VIN can be decoded as per this table
Digit 1 - World Manufacturer Identification
- 1 = USA: NUMMI
- 2 = Canada: TMMC
- 4 = USA: TMM & NUMMI
- J = Japan
Digit 2 - Manufacturor
Digit 3 - Vehicle Type
- 2 = Passenger car
- 3 = Multipurpose passenger vehicle
- 4 = Truck
- 5 = Incomplete Vehicle
- 6 = Bus
Digit 4 - Vehicle Description Section
identifies the engine model series and body type
Digit 5 - Engine Type
- A = 4A-FE
- B = 7A-FE
- T = 5S-FE?

- 0 = ?
- 1 = Manual Belt
- 2 = Manual Belt w/ Airbag
